Mech style game

Post by GMer »

Finally, after almost 2 years of being on the forums I am starting a project!
I picked up Mech Warriors 2 at a yardsale over the weekend (for 25 cents) and I like it (despite the lack of textures on the mechs). I am considering making a mech-style game, but with a twist...
-The enemy mechs are biological.

-The player can use their mouse to aim (and look around the cockpit & see your body move the levers & such) but will need to use other keys (arrow keys or WASD?) to move. (W forward, S back, A turn body left, S turn body right) I think this could be done if I attach a camera with a script similar to the flashlight script (where the camera rotates with the mouse) to a pawn that will be the mech model. I'll probably have to create my own (simple?) weapon system *gasps* There is no weapon pickups.

-The Hud will look like it is a hologram being displayed in "Midair", and possibly there will be some moniters whose texture changes when certain events happen (e.g. run out of ammo, health is low, jumping)

-Controls will be rather simple, aim with mouse, shoot with mouse button, move with WASD or arrow keys, jump with the spacebar.

Let me know what you think! :D
Over 3 years (has it been that long?) and just now I noticed the day and month of my birthday were switched. Whoops!

Some 2d games I made, haven't made anything in a year though O.o

Good to know someone is interested in this!
For certain missions you will control certain types of mechs (same keyboard controls, different cockpit configurations).
Here are some mech types that will be in the game:

Most popular (on google image search, anyway)style mech

Spider-style mech

Gundam-style mech

Has anyone ever noticed that gundam-style mechs have giant groin blocks? What is up with that?

Behemoth-style mech

How 'bout a tank-style mech? Like one that has wheels or tracks. Or a mech that hovers in the air.

I'd love to see a mech game done with RF. I believe quite a few have tried with little success. So good luck to you. :)

Here is a flying mech concept (changed a google image in about 1 minute)

I guess that a mech with treads would kinda resemble this...

Maybe the tanked mechs could be more armored, but slower in the game.

there was an old arcade game (probably mid 90s) that I remember had tank style mechs. I kinda liked those.
