If its two monsters fighting on an arena match, would you prefer the room they are in to have some simple obstacles like pillars, wide steps stones etc?
Or,you like better the arena where the center of the room is circular and is lower than the surrounding room so the gladiators cant jump out,and with no obstacles on the floor?
Imagine you re playing with a character against another, the obstacles and slightly different height levels might give some strategy ideas, while the AI could use some script points according the arena that is loaded (each level could have a trigger on that tells the AI which map it is.
The script points can be different for each level ,and the AI would choose the appropriate predefined strategy in its script.
Lets say -a gargoyle player could use some script points to fly to and land and then attack the opponent before returning to the script points.
Example of a simple strategy for the gargoyle's opponent:
Since what i describe is like the old Hippodrome (or Fighting Fantasy) coin op where you could choose your weapon before each battle (the opponent and arena that is next is announced first)
you could choose a long weapon like the Halberd (if you have purchased it) so you can reach the gargoyle to its high position
or if the current player cant use pole arms, then wear an armor that does not decrease the speed and jump speed so he can jump and hit the gargoyle.
Thats an example of an arena with some height levels and stuff in it.
I am leaning towards the more simple version-no obstacles,no where to hide.
No,if the fighters would be in a lower level-somewhat like a pit,the pit should be deep enough so the characters wont jump on each other and get out.
I have not found a solution yet for the occasion one stands on top of each other.
Some of the fighters will jump so high they will cross over the other.
Maybe physics would give an option for one actor to slide to the side when it lands on top of another.
Arena:clear floor or with obstacles
Re: Arena:clear floor or with obstacles
I would do at least some obstacles to hide behind. If you have borderlands, take a look at fyrestone coliseum. If you haven't got borderlands, here's an image of the map: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/File: ... um_Map.png
