RF2 Mascot Modelling Contest (Extended)

Post by paradoxnj »

Gamemaker and Zany gave me an idea in another post...

RF2 needs a mascot model. I don't want to use the Ogre from Ogre as that represents Ogre (yes...I used Ogre 3 times in a sentence :) ). Let's have a contest. Whomever makes the best model for an RF2 mascot gets a credit as an RF2 developer and it will be packaged with the RF2 installer.

The rules are:

-- Model must be a decent poly count. RF2 models should be 2000 - 7000 polys.
-- Model must be completely original. No modifying other models.
-- Model must contain a skeleton (bones)
-- Model must contain at least material with one texture unit.
-- Model must be animated. Animations should include Idle, Walk, Run, Shoot, Die, and Hit.
-- Model must NOT be X-Rated.
-- Model must contain the RF2 logo as a texture. Could be a shirt, tattoo, or something.
-- Model can use any material technique that Ogre supports (e.g bump mapping, etc...)
-- Model can be of any species (e.g human, robot, animal, monster, etc...)
-- All submissions must contain a thumbnail image of the model for display on the forum.

All entries will be due on September 30, 2010 and will be voted on via poll in the forum.

I also need someone to convert the ACT files that come with RF to the Ogre Mesh format for use with RF2. I believe that Equity can do this.

If I can find the time I might try my hand at this. When you listed the animations, was there an unsaid "etc." in there? Or are those really all you need at minimum?

That is the bare minimum. You can add more if you want to.

No. It must be Ogre Mesh format. RF2 does not use ACT.

I'm going to try my hand at this. The only constraint is having the free time to get it done, which I don't have right now. School + guitar + part time job + no computer make things difficult :P
Once I was sad, and I stopped being sad and was awesome instead.

This is true but you can convert any .act file to Ogre mesh/skeleton format using latest Equity program.

What is the RF2 logo exactly? Your avatar?

Yes. If you download the pre-alpha, you'll find it in the media\materials\textures directory. The file name is rf2logo.png.

This topic is pretty inactive... so how much of us are modelling the mascot?
I have sketched up my mascot and when I get a new mouse, I'm gonna model it!

I'm working on one in my spare time. Texturing now.
On that note... Paradox, I've been wondering if we can alter the RF logo at all? Here's what I mean:
Image
It would be like that on the character's back, with the regular one on the front positioned like a badge.

I don't see why not. As long as the circle with the RF2 inside stays the same. The color scheme really doesn't matter.

I'm working on a little something too. Still got a lot of work to do, though, so I may not make it in time.
