Ok, I am really into video game development. I have been trying to assemble a game in RF for a year now but am still in the early development stages still working on scripted player control system with a dual weapons system and having the player and bots have rag doll thanks to the recent implimentation of physics.(Alot of work for me I know, but I believe you have to go big or go home) Basicly, I am trying to make a full professional quality game with RF. Anyway...
I want to furthur my knowledge in the area of game development/design/programming. My weakest area being programing.
So, are there any good books on game development and C++ game programing that you have read and would recommend?

depends
It really depends on what you are looking to do with your knowledge.
are you hoping to make a game by yourself? then obviously programming is essential, but if you are hoping to 'break into the industry' by getting a job at a studio, then you do not need programming ability (necessarily), you need to be very good at what you do - whether it's modeling, level design, etc, and create as many different types of examples for your portfolio.
If you demonstrate that you can do very cool levels, it doesn't matter what program / engine, etc you use, all you are looking for is demonstrations of what you can create.
If you are hoping to get hired as a 3d modeler, then create a ton of models - actually creating your own game from scratch is a massive undertaking, and you would likely be better off creating a ton of smaller demonstrations of you ability than fighting with the millions of micro-details involved in creating one complete game (which may or may not be a good demonstration of your ability).

I do not want to try to code my own engine and I do want to get a job in the game industry. As of now, I would want a job as a concept artist, charactor designer or 3D modeler. I havent tried level design yet but I will try that eventually. However, I want to learn about all aspects of game making. I think I would find coding intersting and I thought with a little experiance I might be able to help RF advance. I would not want to code for a living, I have coded basic programs in Visual Basic and I cant stand coding for hours on end. I am focusing my energy on the side of game development I want to do, I just have a curiosity on how games are programmed.
