This makes human bodies with 21,000 polys, I reduced the
default one in 3ds max to 1019, you can get it
at
http://terrymorgan.net/huma1019.3ds

If you have a pixel shader 2.0 card, nvidia melody does a
comparable job of reducing. It's a toss up whether it would be
faster to build one in Wings 3d, where you can control the
placement of triangles, or fix up one of these, I think Wings 3d
is faster and more fun.

Hey, i'm guessing this is hike,

would you be able to do a quick tute on what you did, in max and make human to get a lowpoly human :)

i'm interested in this method cos makehuman looks pretty promising.

i don't really like using makehuman for a game. CGI, yes, game, no. It just that it takes as much work as making your own model, and in the end you feel like you've just taken a shortcut, especially when your girlfriend asks "that's the best looking thing in the game, did you make it?" and you quickly move it off the screen and say "uhhhhh...... yeah honey. hey, look at this beautiful tree."

it's a great program, dont get me wrong. a lot of hard work went into it and i have a lot of respect for its creators. but in most situations your better off making your own, for the simple fact that it ends up being less complicated in the long run, since you know your own model better and can better suit it to your own unique needs and visual style. however, this is probably the best things out there for the non-artist types.

Link is fixed now, it was '3DS' not 3ds. I have the polygon cruncher for Max 3.1, just told it to
knock it down to 1019 polys, still lots of work to get the mesh looking right, texturable and animatable, unless you were just going to make statues or some such.

Nvidia Melody does the same type job, but
you need an Nvidia Geforce fx5700 le ($70)
or something that does pixel shader. Nvidia is
a little tricker, if you have it I'll go through it again.
