NeoAxis considering Open Source

Post by bernie »

See this thread:- http://www.neoaxis.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=0&t=7766

Certainly that would be good news for game makers.

Also another free game engine due to be released in September 2013 called the Paradise engine using ogre for rendering see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAWwwvyi ... r_embedded

Well, it seems NeoAxis has decided not to go open source after all  . So nothing else left to do except sit and wait for the Paradise engine to be released in September. Unity or UDK are possibilities I suppose but that means changing all our model formats to .fbx or .ase formats and the only easy way of doing that is via Equity -> .Ms3d format then load into Milkshape add animation then re-save ms3d -> Blender then export .fbx or .ase.

Hi bernie

Would it be worth it to import .fbx and .ase directly into Equity what do you think. I am just finishing some of our old stuff we did as stand alone. Then convert the whole thing to an ogre based renderer instead of OpenGL.

The reason I say this is that Milkshape is not free if we can import directly that would make it free for any user so to speak.

Thanks
Terry

Yes Terry it would. But both import and export. Also the big thing about milkshape format is that it supports 1 animation which needs to be saved from the act file directly to ms3d format and Equity needs to be able to load & save that animation from the ms3d file directly not saved and loaded separately as it is now. Ms3d format only supports 1 animation.
I have said before Equity should be Ogre based and support weighted vertices but bear in mind that act files and RF1 don't support weighted vertices. Milkshape and Blender do support them so Equity does need that. Blender v2.66 and above now supports ms3d files both import and export so the Blender lovers will be pleased about that.
Also it should support bumpmapping but that is less important than the above stuff as it's only for visibility in Equity itself.

Edit: Just thought of something else.
.Bvh & .bip motion import/export would be very useful also there are loads of free .bvh & .bip motion files available on the net.

Ok bernie

Understood I have found The current version of FBX SDK (2013.3) supports Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, 2008 and 2010. import and export will also convert to Ogre 1.8.1 Will set up a SVN thing so user can monitor what’s happening and download as we go on. And of course will be open source. Will need some advice later on the Milkshape animation thing.

Thanks Bernie

Terry

PS
will look into the .Bvh & .bip motion import/export thing.
