Frag Grenade

Post by SithMaster »

My second modelling attempt (first being the smoke grenade). Any productive comments welcome. In my opinion the body is too box like, but let me hear what anyone else thinks.

Hmmm, it looks pretty good, especially for 56 polys. Is it just the screen-shot, or are the black parts really like that on the mesh? oO; If they're really like that: dunno what ya use, but in Blender, you can recalculate the normals. Control N to recalc. outside, control+shift N to recalc. them inside. You may have already know that, and it's probably just the screenshot, so nyeh. :p

The black parts only appear when i rotate the model certain ways. The texture is one of the few that came with 3ds max. I havent really tried learning how to properly texture models, i know a mistake on my part, as i am trying to first model some weapons for a test demo. i have tuts on texturing and will eventually do something about it. As for the tech stuff you mentioned i have no idea.

in-game that will be fine! if you can afford some extra polys it's best to make round objects with a pentagon cross-section. but like i said, what you have will be fine in-game.

Hey that would be a good third-person model. But for a first person model try editing a cilinder with 6 or so sides for a good model it won't take more that 15-30 min. I'll see what granade i can make and post it.

The Body was a cilinder the pin is one 3 sided cilinder and a Donut like shape (can't remember it's name) the thing you hold is a box with some modification's and the top is a extruded line.

Wow, that is way better than mine. Just a few questions what is the poly count and what did you use to model it? Your description leads me to believe you used 3ds max. But whatever you used it looks great, many congrats.

The Grenade Was 200 faces and yes i use 3dsmax3 i know it's old but it's great for game modeling and the price of those new ones i think i'l stick with this one. this model was really easy to do it only took 20-25 mins the texture isn't good but i will get better with time.

How did you learn to texture? I've found a few guides but they answer few quetions but make more. I went to 3dtotal. If you could point me to some good beginner guides that would be great.

Really you like it? It's my first texture and i think it sucks. It's a green background a box for the red like and some light green and black spray here and there. I don't know what a guide would look like. Its just a box and a little spray Oh and a very light blur.
