1920's gangster game in black and white?

Post by ZenBudha »

Just an idea that popped into my head. It probably sounds better than it would play but I think could be interesting. Have everything sort of grainy looking so that it looks like your watching a black and white movie.

Maybe even do the cutscenes like an old silent movie. I think it could be a neat project and fun more than anything else.

the grainy part is done partly in resident evil 4... black and white would be possible... interesting idea.

I good idea maybe you can ever add a entity (can't remember it's name) thet will give it a old movie effect. I mean that you can add old film scratches and stuff on the screena as if it was a playing movie.

THIS IS A NICE IDEA finally!!!
Original and fun! :D

 Hey, wait a minute! Am I remembering right, or your old avatar was about spy vs spy?
Wha do you think about a 3d remake?

P.S. The entity for the grain could be an animated Overlay...

I think somebody else has already done a 3D spy vs spy but I'm not sure. Would probably get a cease and desist for working on anything spy vs spy related.

Yeah an animated overlay would work for the grain effect. Would be cool so long as the fps of the game didn't suffer from it too badly.

You can use the TextureImageConverter to get grey versions of your textures. Just use the function that generates the Bumpmaps. Play around with the depht value a bit, so you can change the contrast of the textures. Also you should not use RadiosityLighting and you should make your Lights grey.
Everyone can see the difficult, but only the wise can see the simple.

Yea they did make new spy vs spy I didn't get it but the old one was fun.
And i think that this game should be more of a gangster game.
Like Gta of something. maybe With All Capone and some other famous gangsters.

Yeah I have photoshop so getting the black & white textures is no problem.

Still really just bouncing the idea around in my head trying to get a feel for it.

Well I was playing around with som stuff, and I dunno about black & white now. It's kind of neat and different but some might find it annoying after awhile.

Also kind of had a Sin City style going when I put some color actors in with the Black & White stuff.

Gave me some neat idea's though. Also bought Soldier of Fortune I for $9.99 which I have been studying (playing ;) So might go a totally different route altogether. Dunno nothing is for certain ever with me lol.

Sounds good.

I think it would look really great if the explosions and fire/destrution stuff is in color, and the rest is in black and white, but the grainy effects may be a little over the top.

Wow way to bring out the dead there. I had totally forgotten about this game idea. One of a few hundred ideas that never got past concept level #1.

I'm actually doing a little work on the side for a project for Federico. Maybe that'll re-ignite my gamedev fire, and I will start actually working on something instead of just fiddling around.
