Good and bad news from me. UT 2004 runs on my pc. However, it looks like this....*see attached image

It runs at decent FPS but lag is very present. I have to have every feature on the lowest setting to have it have minimal lag.

Can a new graphics card fix the lag and the very bland graphics?

Edit: Adding another pic and showing one from the UT2004 site:

Compare to my other screen.

EDITED on JULY 11 2006 Took out my uploaded pics so I can post elsewhere. I figured that these screens arent important anymore anyway.

Yes, it will. The same place on my GeForce 6200:

Link to where you can buy a GeForce 6200 for 40 bucks (same card I have): (must have an AGP slot, if you don't theres a pci version on that same site)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130008

(Note, your other components may hold you back a tiny bit, though I doubt it will hurt much, but the graphics will be much better. I run mine at the highest settings on the card above.)

I might want to upgrade my ram. Its only Single data 512. Thanks for the link to where you got your card at. However I was searching circuitcity.com and found your graphics card for $29.99.

The EVGA E-GeForce 6200 Video Card (128-A8-N339-LX)

Seems they have some good deals right now.
512 meg ATI x1300 for $129.99
ATI X1300

***Of course all prices are after mail in rebates and what not.

Only a 30-40 dollar graphics card upgrade looks very pretty! Now too go do some more research. Thanks for the help! :D

btw, how does half life 2 look on your new graphics card?

Oh I was playing online in the UT 2004 demo with a bunch of random people. The lag got really bad and I ended up dying alot. I think the lag was from the graphics card being abused. So I would like to play an RF team match but I would be too laggy.

EDIT:
Would a better graphics card enable me to put more polys into my own RF game?

EDIT EDIT: I am playing on DSL so internet connection shouldnt be the cause of lag. Also, it lags when many bots are in the same area when playing offline.

Half-Life 2 looks great - actually, it seems to look better than it does in the screenshots by Valve themselves. It lags a tiny bit at those settings at times, though, but still very very playable. Heck, it's playable with full antialiasing/aniso at the max settings except for color balancing, though it lags a bit too much for my comfort at higher resolutions at those settings.

I -think- I've heard bad things about the X1300. I could be wrong, it would be best to researchg it yourself.

Sorry about that, Circuit City is where I first heard of it, but Newegg had it five dollars cheaper so I went with them, then forgot about the Circuit City deal after the rebate on Newegg expired.

It wouldn't allow you to put -too many- more polygons in your RF game, because RF does not use the graphice card for too much. Alot of the critical stuff is still done on the CPU. This last I heard was being worked on. RF2, certainly.

I just found out that I dont have an open AGP port so I need a pci card. Too bad I dont have an AGP port open on my pc or I would buy the 6200 in an instant. Seems like I will end up paying around 80+ for a good pci graphics card. Back to researching... maybe some more laggy killing in UT will also do.... :P Thanks for your help Andy.

I have one last thing to say/ask about graphics cards. Andy, is the 6200 capable of playing battlefield 2 if all other pc requirements are filled? The required video card for BF2 is :
VIDEO
Video card must have 128 MB or more memory and one of the following chipsets:
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 or greater
ATI Radeon 8500 or greater

*I dont know what the chipsets are that it speaks of.

IF those minimum requirements are accurate, then yes it can, it's chipset wise 5700 vs. 6200, and the 6200 is much higher, but it might run but not run -smooth-. I don't know, honestly, since I haven't tried playing it.

Man this is just not my week.

First I get moved to do night work.

Then my youngest goes and puts a straw into my diskdirve.

This straw was conected to a full drinks carton, that is to say it was once a full drinks carton, my nice 3.somethink MZ is no more.

I'm now back to my old 650 mz.

But I'll still try to get the UT working try every night around 10 or 11 GMT all this week.
by the way Andy GMT means ( GET ME TEA )

Ah yes. (By the way, I discovered the most amazing tea... What was it called... Ah, Yorkshire Tea. Very good.)

I'll try to come. I still can't figure out what time it is here; if the time MOG posted is right, it wasn't up at that point.

Sorry to hear that! That's terrible.
