Terrain Made with Nem's

Post by Microman171 »

I have made a perfect terrain for my game... I have tried to load it into RF Edit Pro and it loads - sometimes - I really need to see it textured but if I texture it (It uses the same grass texture all over) and it takes a long time and only sometimes loads the texture. Is there anyway to convert this map into an act file? it would be a lot faster. BTW I don't haave milkshape.

It might be worth downloading Milkshape just to get this terrain changed into an actor. Nem's exports map, correct? I went to the website and didn't find a list of file formats that are exported. But I did find a link to this website, with a free file convertor:

http://web.axelero.hu/karpo/

I do not understand all of the notation under the file formats, but it handles like 426 formats!!

That's a lot of formats. I'm going to download it myself in the morning at home.

I have not had any trouble bring nem's terrains into rfeditpro. You do Open>MAP Files, correct? Then, texture and create your skybox, put in your entities and save as a 3dt. Then compile and preview. That is how I've done mine. And they have worked pretty good.

 wow that was easy. hanks but it sadly doesn't covert to act. I can only use milkshape for 30 days. I am not willing to buy milkshape. I do open the map like normal and it loads - now real quick) but I cant texture. I'm going to try something before I complain any more.

You're not complaining at all. Just trying to work out a problem. Gekido posted a tutorial on creating actors from brushes, but alas, it uses Milkshape as well.

Can texture? Hmm. Let us know what you try and how else we can help.

OK I'm in a hurry, I can load it easy then I reload the extra grass texture. It then crashes. What now? I would love milkshpe, this gives me an Idea uninstall then re-install every 30 days

Thanks guys

What do you mean, extra grass texture? Don't texture in Nem's. Leave it blank, add your grass texture to your txl file, then texture it right in RfEdit.

And be careful about mentioning piracy of software. Folks can be mighty touchy about that.

Okay. I have 2 ideas.

1) To get a terrain into your level to see it with a terrain, you just use the terrain generator that is available in the Milkshape3D Tools menu, export to bdy, make an actor of it, then bring it in as a static mesh entity.

2) Gekido once created a tut on how to make actors out of brushes using rfeditpro, milkshape, actor studio. That was stickied in this forum, but the link is no good now. Does anyone have this tutorial, so they can give microman a copy?

Since you now have your terrain in a 3dt file, it is treated as a brush or brushes which you can group and use for this tutorial.

Man! Now your really starting to sound like me. Every nerve is just dying to 'create a game'. Your bursting with desire to 'make something happen'!! However, you don't have a clue what to make.

I live that every day!! I'm just grabbing on to The Dungeon and riding it to the end. Then I'll start feeling around for another tail to grab onto!!
