Wow
This is fantastic news! This could be add a whole new dimension to owning a 360
Microsoft alows anyone to create XBOX 360 games
Yes really cool indeed!
I once heard Irrlicht supported XBOX what with XBOX360?
But i wonder how much the price is or if you need a license for publishing a game(i heard something like this existed for games made for XBOX, can someone please clear me up?)

Everyone can see the difficult, but only the wise can see the simple.

Wow, seems like at least two next gen consoles will embrace indies. Nintendo plans to do the same thing. I do not know what kind of development kit or help nintendo will offer with the Wii but it will support indie games in its virtual console feature:
Quote from the Hardware Section of the Wii site:
Virtual Console: Wii will have downloadable access to 20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and even the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The Virtual Console also will feature a "best of" selection from Sega Genesis titles and games from the TurboGrafx console (a system jointly developed by NEC and Hudson). It also will be home to new games conceived by indie developers whose creativity is larger than their budgets.
That is found on this page:
http://wii.nintendo.com/hardware.html
The thing is that Nintendo announced this back at E3 in May.
Hmmm.... Microsoft, you copy cats!
*kind of off topic section*
I actually am following these consoles very closely and it seems to me that Sony and Microsoft like to copy Nintendo. Back in Feburary Nintendo announced the Wii controler and its motion sensor technology, so then all of a sudden, the PS3 has a redesigned controler a few weeks later with a motion sensor! Now microsoft is allowing indies to make games just like Nintendo announced at E3 back in May... Sounds fishy...
Take it for whats its worth. Please do not take offense and no console flaming please! I am just stating what I have noticed.

Think outside the box.
To go on an adventure, one must discard the comforts and safety of the known and trusted.

the idea of indie developing is promising, opening the doors to indie developers is a great way to get people interested in systems
the soon to be released PS3 will come standard for no extra cost, a set of game deveoping tools, to create any type of game, Ps3 has a specialized built in version of linux, which will allow "Homebrewers" the ability to code games and other applications, this was probally implemented because of the large outcry from the homebrew community for the PSP's......how straight forward or easy to use these tool sets is yet to be seen,
i've got links to the SNESCD concept floating around somewhere.... i'll try trackem down.

funny you should mention that, in the original Sony-nintendo planned SNESCD (which later became the Ps1) Sony implemented the Tilt controller which looked almost identicle to the current Wii-mote, it seems nintendo must have had the IP rights for the technology left over, so really no-one copied anyone. in fact the Dreamcast had a controller very similar as well almost identicle, ......as with technology there will be similar technologies this is the nature of the beast, no-one pounced on nintendo for using "mini-disc's" for the game cube, guess who came up with that type of tech....sony,....i know what your're saying about the console pissing war, it's rampant on the net and i hate it. i can't wait for the bollox to die down.and it seems to me that Sony and Microsoft like to copy Nintendo. Yeah I saw a thing on the g4tv network about Sony and Nintendo. Nintendo partnered with Sony to give the original super nintendo CD's to play along with the ability to play the cartriges. Nintendo then backed out of the deal with Sony because they realized that sony would have some rights over there system because it used their technology. Sony didnt like that at all, so the president of the company I bieleve said that they would create there own sysytem to rival nintendo. It seems that nintendo is the reason for the playstation! Interesting stuff. An interesting fact is that 200 SNES's were made with the cd drives but were never released to the public.
It is indeed terrible how consoles seem to divide the gaming community. So many people on the interent seem to be up in arms defending there favorite console. For some reason they think its nessicary to hate all other consoles but the one they like.
If you get the g4tv network, you can watch the episode that tells of the birth of playtion on 8/18/2006 at 1pm EST. Found it on this page:
http://www.g4tv.com/gamemakers/episodes ... ation.html
The page also states what I have said above.
Well, no matter what console you like, its great news to hear that the industry leaders will allow us indies the chance to show the world what we're made of!
EDIT(off topic section): Found a pic of the old CD SNES from gamersgraveyard.com
*I did not read its article on CD SNES so I can't tell you how accurate it is. I note this because they say, "Finally, Nintendo decided that CD-ROM technology "sucked";" Yeah, that sounds professional . I dont trust sites that publish content with informal text.
