mutants = bad idea for game plot Confused
Ow, that really hurts... my game idea involves mutants.
But, for the record, they're not zombies or anything, they're just evil humans, fully aware of themselves. Not like they're stumbling around, with their hands held out in front of them moaning "Braaaaiiinnns...." or anything like that lol

I wouldn't say mutants are always a bad idea. For some games mutans can be the best enemy choice. As long as they are reasonable. I haven't actually played Far Cry much but after reading psYco's comment, the game sounds ridiculous.
And yeah, I agree with you, Jay. The bosses are way too often just like you described. I loved the old platformer games on PS1 where you had to try a bossfight several times to figure out how to even damage him. And only then you could try to actually kill him.
The number one thing I hate in games is bad controls and gameplay. I hate games with dozens of different keys, I prefer to keep everything simple. Also, it's very frustrating if the manouverability of the main character is poor, like you fall in a pit just because the main character must finish his run animation before he can jump.

psYco wrote:Well, I personally love realistic games (I do enjoy a bit of insane fun eg UT but i do like a good "realistic game") now first off, in games when do you use bandages generally? When you get shot right? well if "realistic games" are ment to simulate "real" life then HOW THE HELL DOES A BANDAGE FIX A BULLET WOUND? in "real"life getting shot, 90% of the time means, being crippled, being brain damaged and the big favourite being dead... you "really" dont get shot in the face wap a bandaid on and keep soldiering on.
next about the mutants which kinda connects to the bandage thing, cause im talking about farcry, which had a "realistic" difficulty setting I think it came just after insanely difficult on the list
but i loved it, getting shot made you become DEAD as is "realistic" and shooting people (even with those trusty bulletproof vests that make you a tank in most other games) made them dead, or at least severly close to being dead
now i was really enjoying the game albeit the werid and wonderful hollywood esq. plot but then all of a sudden there was freaking MUTANTS ALL OVER THE BLOODY PLACE! that i suppose "realistically" tore you open with one swipe, but THEN take over a hundred bullets to kill! and I know from reaserch that 100 bullets is alot, so yeah mutants = bad idea for game plot
lol. i thought you ment bandages for liek bleeding.
Jay, wat about teleporting bosses? you have to guess where there going to tele to then shoot there

lol!
That's why I hate games like Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six - I got sick of directing my entire team, and I think one time while I was playing R6 I got stuck in the fountain outside a building.
Apparently the person who implemented the "jump" command during development is a *bleep bleep bleep*.

All right, well, mutants are fun, but I don't see them playing much of a role here...
And there will be a third person view for you all...so that you can see your feet in the jumping puzzles.
But I have to make the enemies smarter than most if I want to do well...more strategy, less guns...anyone ever read the Gamer's Manifesto?

I DID! And im trying to follow it, in my game desighn... I agree too, less guns is good if you want to have more stratagey, although I think they still strongly hold their place for cool factor and also the fact that there is just an amazing game play that is achieved with shooters that brings us back for more like crack addicts, but yeah its sounding gooood

I meant those with weaker guns would probably need to be smarter to compensate. Don't worry, both are allowed...
