umm...are the shadow maps somehow compressed? because 4K² is not small...that's 64MB of video ram...or are you storing them as greyscales? (only 16MB of video ram needed)
Anyways great pics and i am sure the power of your 3d engine is amazing, with the animations computed on the graphics chip you can make the objects fast Vertex Buffers am i right? (Otherwise you had to send all the data over the AGP/PCI bus... making the effects of VertexBufferObjects lesser)

WOW! Im psyched to see that there is still progress being made on your engien, and I must say that compared to the last screenshots (which i thaught were just too beautiful) this is a MAJOUR improvement, I dont really understand all the technical stuff about the shadowing but I know that the lighting youve got there is fantastic! Your engien keeps getting better and better

they're stored as greyscale; it's still very large, i know. but you can use smaller resolutions, 1024 or even 512 still look fine
yes i upload the whole mesh once at startup, so i only have to send the relevant matrices to the shader each frame.
thanks for the nice comments

Direct X 10 by any chance?
no need for dx10.. the engine runs under opengl, so it offers the same functionality on all operating systems. no need for vista.
