Final Fantasy VII
Dear RF users,
I'm pretty new to this, and i apologize beforehand if this thread is placed in the wrong part of the forum, but any help/directions/links you can give me would be very much appreciated.
I would like to know if it is at all possible to create a Final Fantasy 7 style game, using Real Factory. I am not naive to the difficulty that a project like this might require, i'm just curious as to whether this programme can be used for such a task.
Basically with the pre-rendered backgrounds (like a painting style) as all the demos and screenshots i've seen on the RF site are Morrowind style RPG/first person games.
If there are already threads about something like this i'm sorry not searching for them first, but i didn't have the time, at the time lol.
so any help, tips, other progams, links, anything.... would be great.
thanks for ya time, Dan.

i've got no chance then being a beginner and all. i've got so many idea's though, i feel i'm letting myself down no doing anything with them.
i compose music, draw, and write stories. and i have lots of friends who do aswell. This is totally something i need to do.
has anyone got any idea of a program/game engine (not nesserily free) that strictly makes games like ff7?

I know exactly what you mean and think you could do better than FF7 using this engine, but...
You need a sick amount of scripting. You would have to script the hell out of players and cameras. That doesnt even cover the game play that just for visuals.
Also you need a really tight modeling program. From what I think you want all the Geometry in your project would be actor files. but your frame rate should work out well for you due to the way FF7 is set up to render bits and pieces of levels by jumping so you could keep the polycount low and keep the detail.
ok. What I would do if I were you is get together with a scripter and get into making and exporting animated models into RF. Then you will be able to make it happen from there.
About music.
Can I here some and what different styles can you write?

i'll try and get some music on the net at somepoint...
as for you advice, it is hugely appreciated... however, speaking from the view of a COMPLETE beginner, can you point me in the write direction, explain what you mean in more detail?
thanks, dan.

Wel unfortunetly no not really.
I can explain the grachics side in great detail but it would be a hell of a post. But on the scripting side no I can't
I am not much of a scripter, (Not at all a scripter)
But I know it can be done. You would need to get one of these other guys in
the scripting scene to work with you on the project. Easier said than done
though.
Overall if you dont know anyone that can either inderstand what you want
and do it, or some one that can pick RF scripting up fast and run with it then
you are probably out of luck. It is a shame if that is the case becuase this
engine could really use some well done finished projects to show it off.

agreed.
RF has been out for over 6 years, and we have 1 finished commercial game that i know of. a game that is never going to get much publicity because of the type of game it is.
Final_Art, RF is completely capable of making an FF7 style game. my suggestion for you would be to read up on the documentation, download some of the demos, and look very carefully at the scripts that they use. once you are familier with the scripting enough that you can write a script to move a camera around a room (actually rather simple) then just get into your game and start saying to yourself, this is what i need to do, how can i do it.
if you look at the individual problems as they come to you instead of worrying about them now, you will get things done 1000X faster. you will also discover that there are many ways to do one thing. you may find that, especially as far as the camera is concerned, none or very-little scripting will be required for some things.
i can't wait to see how this turns out.

i'm searching back through the forum posts now, even back on the old site....where me and a guy were talking about just this very thing....and where he had worked out a very similar battle system, including a " warping" effect.
We had it figured out to make your basic overland area( we were trying the isometric view for the main area), the main area, with teleporter entities scattered around it, that would teleport you to a smaller place ( placed under the main area, with the free moving 3d camera, or one fixed slightly above and to the side)) in which you would battle a monster or whatever.after you won the fight, you would venture forward to grab an object, and step on another teleporter that would bring you back to your original starting place.
the other guy even had a party system going, and a way for other npc's to join up, and follow the main character around.
I was working on a type of "socketing" for the weapons and armor, similar to diablo 2's,when i got distracted by beyond virtual, (heh).
i'm back.....since i now Rf's editors better than i know any modeling package.....and i'll be working on my ffvii-style project, so any thing i find out, i'll pass along.
