FF7 sword *complete*

Post by scott »

i took a breake last week went on holiday to visit my mother for a week now im back im planing on continuing my game unknown identity but thought that i would have an easy break into modeling again so decided to model clouds ff7 advent children sword in its seperate units and then animate them to combine to the final weapon, so far i have started the handle and first quater of the main blade, its taking longer than i thought as i need to keep in mind how the animations work.

the film doesnt show the animations too clearly but am trying to work it out and see where everything fits.

this is what i have so far.

Image

i am trying to make a replica model of the sword but it is going to be a challange because part of the sword isnt showing through out the movie

Hope you had a great holiday, Scott.

I have never played or seen a Final Fantasy 'episode', so I had to go out and find out something about Cloud Strife and this sword. It looks very good to me. I'll have to see if I can find some clips to see how it is animated, but I'd say you are of to an excellent start!!

its not realy an episode, it was an original game, exelent in my opinion, and many others, there are some haters but they decided to do a comple 100% cgi film that is breath taking with its detail and animation, they called it advent children, the sword i am using consists of 6 swords combined into one ultimate sword, its just the animations in the film last a quater of a second if that so if you blink its over and so for that reason it is incredibaly hard to see how the actual animations animate.

here is an image of the main sword on its own, it has two stages standard and a battle stage.

this is normal... not verry good picture but the circled one opens into the battle one

and this is battle

There is no doubt that Final Fantasy will rank as one of the greatest games of all time. That is a fact. It's one of those games I've always wanted to play but haven't, so I had to research about it. I knew episode was the wrong term, it's just that FF has had 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. :D It is so long lived. That sword looks killer!!

Having not seen it, how does it 'animate'? Does it seperate in the center?

yea, the top sword opens up from the middle to show the middle, i have started on the battle state of the sword, i havnt atemted to make the in side of the sword as im not sure how the inside moves when going from normal to battle mode, from what i can tell the outside may just move on its own, leaving the inside stationary and slides over, i need to do some mathmatical calculations with space and stuff to see how much room is where and how if it does slide where would the most logical place be to have a slider for it.

ive been taking the film to bits last night, seperating the individual frames of the film, so far i have two different sections of the film, both with the anmiation blured as hell.

this is the before, inbetween and after

this is the second time he does it but this time he needs to do it to combine another sword to it, but still cant see too much from it.

as you can see they are blured so gona have to work it out, its just rather anoying.

wel a quick update on this model as i want to get back to making it, i have replaced the rectanugular hand guard at the end of the handle and made a high polly detaild model of it, it is now in acurate mesurements aswel, i have made the outer blade of the main sword but have been working on someon elses computer so i couldnt have all the different frame angles to do the internal parts of the main sword, i have also started on the second upgrade sword, this is 75% complete and is also acurate in mesurements.

over all i am pleased with the progress of the sword and will have an update picture of it when i have completed the main sword.

That is sweet. What are you modeling it in? That blue background looks like Milkshape.

yea its milkshape, its the best programme ever, my computer isnt up to handling 3dsmax even if you can afford it, wich to be honest, if your here you cant or you could aford to purchase an game engine, and for the price of about $25 you cant go wrong.

the ease of use is just outstanding.

and the end result is as good as any other programme.

like people say its not the programme its the person, if you cant make anything look good in a cheap programme you gona have trouble with expensive one.

the only difficulty im having is the angles are not that good on the film and am having trouble seeing how and wehre things join up.
