Door origins moving and slow RF Edit Pro

Post by Larryboy »

I'm working through the Space Escape tutorial in Dan Valeo book, only I'm using RF Edit Pro as I'd already started using it and it doesn't seem too much different from WorldEdit.

I am having problems with making doors. I set the origin but when I come to rotate the door, sometime it moves about the origin and sometimes it doesn't. Makes for messy doors

Also, I'm finding that although I'm only half way though the tutorial, RF Edit Pro is working really slowly. If I move an object, I have to wait 6 seconds before I can do anything else. MY PC is a 2400+ AMD Athlon xp with 1Gb ram - is that fast enough?

Really enjoying Reality Factory

this happens for every one irs just a small negative for the engine but to help it not doing it everytime under the 'mode' menu un-tick auto rebuild bsp. by no means is it your computer and 6 seconds is a god send, i have to wait ages with my 256mb ram :( but i put up with it because the engine is free and letting me do what i always wanted to do.

Do you get the same delays when using the other editors? Tried importing my Tutorial into WorldEdit but it didn't like the files so couldn't do a comparison with that?

In the end, I'm not that worried either because, as you say, the software's free and also of all the gamesengines I've tried, its the only one where you don't have to be a C programmer - which I'm not.

Rfedit is faster (has lesser delays) than RFEditPro, but isn't that advanced. There is little difference, though.

I prefer to use rfedit(not rfeditpro) because of it's interface and speed.

that's really odd for slow downs? i use to have 256 megs of ram and the only slow down i got was when the editor had alot going on?

also if i had been using the editor for long periods of time i had to restart the computer again, i think there could be a memory leak in the editor somewhere.

are you importing static meshes into your world?
if so too many of these will do that, the only wy around this is to use the grouping function and turn off/hide the bits your not using, in very complex scenes this is the only way around unfortunately,

You know, the only time I experienced a slowdown such as thing in RFEditPro was when I had static meshes as well. Otherwise, it always runs fine.
