hi dodger,
Animating a door isn't that hard, once you've done one. here is a step by step:
1) Select the brush you wish to be your door.
2) On the Models tab on the left, click the Add Model (or new Model, not sure) it will prompt you to name your model. Type in, say, door01.
3) Click the Set Origin button. This will show an X in the dead center of your model brush. Drag this X to where the hinge of your door would be.
4) Click Done.
5) I always click off my model, to deselect it, then click the Select Model button on the models tab. Your model will show blue.
6) Click the Animate button.
7) Drag your door, or drag/rotate it to about halfway open in the direction you wish it to go.
8 ) Click Stop Animating. it will prompt you for a time. Type in, say 1.0 Click Okay or done or whatever. You'll see it. : - )
9) Click Animate again. Drag it halfway.
10) Click Stop Animating. Enter in, say 2.0. Click okay.
Do this until the door is all the way open.
11) Click Animate, but do not move the door. Click Stop Animating, then enter in in time some seconds after your last. If the last was 5, enter, say, 15.0. This will make it pause 10 seconds before closing.
12) Repeat these steps in reverse, but increasing the time, to animate it closed. ie: rotate it 1/4 closed, and enter a time of 16.0.
Okay?
13) Add a door entity to your level. Assign it to the model you just made. Set it to player only, and activate on shooting.
Compile level and shoot your door. it will open.
P.S. - for a swinging door at least, do the animation in 1/4 or more steps. If you try just moving it to all the way open, then closed, the engine gets confused as to what path it wants to follow to get there. it will rotate backwards 360 degrees to the closed postion. Freaks you out when you see it.
