hi dodger,

Animating a door isn't that hard, once you've done one. here is a step by step:

1) Select the brush you wish to be your door.
2) On the Models tab on the left, click the Add Model (or new Model, not sure) it will prompt you to name your model. Type in, say, door01.
3) Click the Set Origin button. This will show an X in the dead center of your model brush. Drag this X to where the hinge of your door would be.
4) Click Done.
5) I always click off my model, to deselect it, then click the Select Model button on the models tab. Your model will show blue.
6) Click the Animate button.
7) Drag your door, or drag/rotate it to about halfway open in the direction you wish it to go.
8 ) Click Stop Animating. it will prompt you for a time. Type in, say 1.0 Click Okay or done or whatever. You'll see it. : - )
9) Click Animate again. Drag it halfway.
10) Click Stop Animating. Enter in, say 2.0. Click okay.
Do this until the door is all the way open.
11) Click Animate, but do not move the door. Click Stop Animating, then enter in in time some seconds after your last. If the last was 5, enter, say, 15.0. This will make it pause 10 seconds before closing.
12) Repeat these steps in reverse, but increasing the time, to animate it closed. ie: rotate it 1/4 closed, and enter a time of 16.0.
Okay?
13) Add a door entity to your level. Assign it to the model you just made. Set it to player only, and activate on shooting.
Compile level and shoot your door. it will open.

P.S. - for a swinging door at least, do the animation in 1/4 or more steps. If you try just moving it to all the way open, then closed, the engine gets confused as to what path it wants to follow to get there. it will rotate backwards 360 degrees to the closed postion. Freaks you out when you see it. :D

Is there a way to fix it so that the player cannot walk through the rotating doors while they are still closed? The doors arent solid.

I've never had a player go through a door when it was closed. By rotating, do you mean swinging? Like not sliding, but that it just swings open? A door is just a brush made into a model with a door entity attached to it. it should be made as a solid brush.

Yes that is what I mean. It is a swinging door. The player could hit the door to open it but then go right through it. I made a combination lock that the player uses to open the door, and that works fiine. Now the door is solid when closed and solid when open. When the door is in motion the player can pass right through it. The brush that is the door has been set to solid all along, and it still happens.

Any input?

Hmm. Doors have always pushed me out of the way when they were opening. I've never had one pass through me, or me it.

Perhaps you should check the bounding box on your player. Maybe it's too small?

My player Bounding box is set to 25, it used to be ten. I reset it some time back to solve the issue of passing through geometry walls. So the box is at 25 and the issue still happens. good thought steven8, I would have said that same thing if I didnt know the player bounding box had already been increased.

Anyone else want to take a stab at it?

Did you set bRotating to true? If the bRotating flag is true then it indicates that the door is a swinging door and certain collision detection routines are ignored. This can make it easier to pass through a door while it is opening.
