I can Finally say that that little game i wanted to make has turned into a big multi-series game project for the next genration of gaming.
im currently loading a website and looking for more team members.
ill be doing a fantasy style game for pc and i am looking towards developing for the Playstation 3.
Once the core-pc version is complete i will contact SONY and request a project slot and a ps3 dev kit.
I really hope tghat this will become a big thing in the world of gaming.
anyway, i wanted to ask if AndyCR could help in the programming field.
and i want to ask steven if you could help in the art/graphics section.
I live in australia, so ps3 has not yet being released. but im very interested in developing a non company game for this plattform.
i need some support on how the gameplay will be structured.
becuase it is a puzzle style rpg fantasy game im having a concern the input. when you play a console, you use a controller, wich is much more convenient for a rpg game than using a mouse and keyboard. so i would like some help on the structure of the control input type.
and one more thing. I will not be using rf. the game core is slowly being developed using c++, directx9 and for future releases directx10.

have you done research on this? just asking as im a game tester for a company called Rare ltd. they made games like perfect dark, i was testing a game called viva pinata for the xbox 360, this ment i was using a dev-kit, now each dev kit aparntly is worth thousands of pounds, i belive the figure mentiond was about 10 thousand but weather this is true or not im not too sure, and to make a master disk to be able to sell your game is another 10 thousand, this is before you pay staff? and the 10 thousand for the master disk this is not for copying the disk and mass producing it, as the master disk has to be perfect in quality or else if that one goes wrong then they all go wrong, then you got packaging to think of, then shipping, then everything else, theres a reason theres no games made by non-companies as it costs so damn much
and also if your making it for the ps3 i dont belive that it uses standard programming such as c++ meaning if you are programming your own engine? that it will have to be completely re programmed for the ps3
also viva pinata was in testing for 2 years, this is a multi million pound company who was purchased by microsoft, so they had the money to employ a profecional 20 something team members just to make the game, they then had another 20 game each using a dev kit because updates burnt on to a master disk is stupidly imposible becasue of the costs involved, getting an update every 3 days
all in all making a game for a console is a very expensive business, because of this only companys can make them, microsoft has got the right idea now by having a pc development system of some kind for the xbox, but this is in beta and i would expect that you would have to subscribe to this, just stick to pc for now, get a game or two behind you that you can make well and sell and gt some cash.
im sorry to put it like that, i dont mean to discourage you if you truly belive you can do it, i just wanted you to know the facts that i know, as someone said at work its a cut-thote business, a game can either make you or break you and this is so true. just be carful.

Dev Kits are very expensive as scott said. In addition, Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony must approve your project before you even get a dev kit. There are standards that you must meet to develop on those consoles. For example, XBox360 requires you to use shaders, Wii requires you to incorporate the motion sensing controller, PS3 requires your application to be multithreaded to take advantage of the Cell processor. Those are just examples, there are many more requirements to meet their standards.

ohh yea, thats a point, the few rules i learnt myself for the xbox 360, a major thing is that it cant take longer than 10 seconds to load something, if it crashes then it fails, it has to be hi-def, and less important ones like if anything messes with the microsoft guid button then it fails

a lot of games are made through non-company developers and then are sold to a certain company or manufacturer. yes you are right, it does cost a LOT of money for console games. and i probably will stick with the pc.
i very much like the structure of console games and i like using a specvific hand-controller. i would like to implement these attributse to the pc.
I very much agree with you all.
with that out of the way i want to talk more about pc gaming.
now that microsoft has made a compatible console console controller for the pc(xbox360) i can make a range of input types available; keyboard and mouse, joystick, pc controller, 360 controller.
i am a gamer/developer wich looks mostly at graphics and gameplay.
i never really liked short games or boring long games. so i want to design a gameplay style thats very different. i always liked those old fantasy 2d games like zelda and final fantasy. one of the latest being the kingdom hearts series has really inspired me more towards doing a fantasy game.
the names are very important aswell. i do not like medieval/lord of the rings style names. i want the world to be fantasy yet in a futuristic setting.
the biggest thing i need help with is if i should do manga style or realisic human style.
for people wanting to know wha type of game i want to make here are some titles that caught my attention:
God Of war
Final Fantasy series
Kingdom Hearts 1&2
Prince Of persia series
Jak and daxter series

oops did i say manga style, i meant super photorealistic/extreme physics/ ultimate gameplay sort of game.
i always make changes when it comes to making games. but nothing inspires me more than to see some new game technology.
ive been looking at some commercial engines. by far my best and most favourite would have to be Gamebryo bundled with Speed Tree 4.
the visuals are simply amazing. I am very much into games with good graphics and good gameplay. i am now aiming to do a sort of prince of persia(new ps2 version) style game as i think it fits in as a pc game.
im mainly working more on design than story and landing a concept on a seperate character with a main goal. with a fantasy setting and a 3rd person camera ive started working with some free engines to see how well my concepts can be placed on-screen.
i dont have much help with this game but i think ill be done in 1-2 years.
i was thinking on getting my hands on the jade 3 engine and using it to achieve the first game in the series. then use better technology in the second.
i want to design using RF and create a gameplay demo. then i want to move on to using a commercial engine.
ill be coding the game in c++ so im looking for a c++ built engine.
here are some concept pics to give you the look and feel of this game.

I use to work in the game industry, Blizzard, atari, ect.. and I will be the first to say you would be better off trying to make your own console than try to get a game produced by sony. For indie devs they have to sell millions of copies before sony, nintendo, or xbox will even look at them, or you have to have a contract with them that entitles them to make a game for thier console. Besides let me give you a tip, many many many gameing companies are going to the consoles and working less with the PC, the demand for PC games is fixing to grow 3 fold. Mark my words. All these young kids want their consoles but the more sophisticated older crowd will always stick to PC. Though there is nothing wrong with a good game of doge ball on regular nintendo!!! hahaha
just to edit... I am not trying to discourge you, anything is possible, bw where di you get those pics from they look familiar.

This is my first official 3d game.
this series of games is only for people that i know or for community's like RF.
Its not going to be a big hit or anything like that. just practice.
so it dosent matter what game plattform is better. its still a game.

If you want graphics like the one in the concept art, I suggest you look at
OGRE or
Irrlicht. They are the closest you are going to get to achieving that amount of detail.

I think ill stick to rf.
im working on a demo and im finding some problems.
because im doing a colorful game with a manga style, i dont know how to model the world in the cartoon setting.
the prefabs are too plain. how can i imprort a obj model into rf wich i can resize and move the object inside the bsp level.
another problem is the sky. i want a very colourful sky with a nice blue and very few clouds. i want to make it an outdoor level so i want the sky to appear as if it is far away without changing the size of the main box.
if anyone can point me out i would very much appreciate it.
