i just got an email from turbo squid (
http://www.turbosquid.com ) about a new project they have started called gameflood (
http://www.gameflood.com )
now what got me interested was this part of the emial.
at gameflood you will find:
Forums, in which you can meet other gamers/developers, find a project to join, or simply discuss video games; or create your own forums to advertise new projects
this is an already large community established and could bring new possibilities to team members joining and creating games.
and with most of these people being 3d artists and moders of games then they could be willing to help create a game, afterall a mod is new models/geometry/textures imported into a game engine. and the only difference here is that this engine is free.
and a cool set of tools, there is no mention of cost so it could be free

i have read the licence agreement and created my own acount, im not too sure on the licenincing issues but they seem just to consern the system they have made, i am going to email them and see if using their system somehow ties you into publishing it with them as thats the only consern i can see at the moment.

heres the email I think itll be helpful for those who dont know what turbo squid is and give some more info...
Your partners at Turbo Squid are proud to invite you to join our latest project: GameFlood, the premier online destination for artists to create, publish, and distribute add-on game content (including mods, maps, characters and weapons).
We have reserved an account for you that is linked to your Turbo Squid account: just click this link and enter your Turbo Squid member login and password to get started.
GameFlood is designed to help our artists develop new revenue streams by distributing their work directly to gamers. The market for video game content is literally thousands of times larger than the traditional 3D art market, and GameFlood will make it easier than ever before to produce game assets and get them into the hands of a thriving community of gamers.
At GameFlood, you'll find:
* Our proprietary Mashup Studio functionality, where you can design individual weapons, characters, or maps that users can mix-and-match into their own creations
* A totally free and robust project management toolset called Workshop, which gives you a web-based filesystem (up to 1 GB storage); it also simplifies the processes of finding a team to join (or building a team of people who complement your skills), designing a project, managing deadlines, and tracking tasks and bugs
* Forums, in which you can meet other gamers/developers, find a project to join, or simply discuss video games; or create your own forums to advertise new projects
* A large and growing Library of the best add-on game content for the hottest online PC games
The Future of GameFlood
Soon, we will begin introducing a new business model for 3D artists venturing into the video games world, but in the meantime we are hoping that you will check out GameFlood and let us know what you think. Your feedback is vital as we strive to make GameFlood as powerful, easy-to-use, and successful as it can possibly be.
We believe that GameFlood has the potential to become a revolutionary force in the video game business and to open up new revenue streams for the most talented artists in the 3D industry. We believe that your talent will make you an important part of that revolution.
looks great but the site seems to be down at the moment! I think this could be really cool!

its amazing how many young teenagers get into game development.
this must sound strange but im only 15. and was doing since i was like 10.
i learned how to use a pc at 4.
I never really did any 2D games. i just jumped into doing 3D games.
there are already 4 people here under the age of 16 and its just surprizing how many more kids and teens there are than adults.

i wish i was as lucky to have a pc at 4, my first pc was a family owned amstrad, i think the maximum screen colour depth was 16 colours... probably cost alot at the time aswel. but as soon as i got a pc that could handle 3d apps i started straight away being a fanatic gamer from way back when the snes was around with super mario bro. ahh the good old days i also never botherd with 2d games but did do 2d animation.
