part transparent textures

Im trying to make barbed wire, but i need some parts of the texture transparent

you can use .PNG or .giff you just make some bits transparent in the app your making the texture in, eg gimp or photoshop...

I think all you need to do is make an alpha map for for texture file. The alpha map is a bitmap that is done in black and white to have the computer make the original texture transparent. The darker the shade of white or or gray, the more transparent the texture will become. So white is no transparency, and black is completely transparent. If you want only the barbed wire to be shown, everything in the alpha map will be black and the wire will be all white. Then when you import the model or apply the barbed wire texture to an object, and then under the alpha attribute, import the alpha map of the barbwire texture.

got it done, made barbwire.bmp and a_barbwire.bmp then used alphacreate to compile them into a tga
