How to modify an exe target line?

I wanted to modify the demo level for starship troopers (plasma mountain or something another) but whenever i try to get -devuser to apply it says that it is an invalid path. can someone let me know how to modify the target path or the command line to allow me to use cheats.
thanks.
edit-well i figured out how i was supposed to kill the plasma bug but in all honestly this game is ridiculously bad. with such a decent license they could have done something at least on par with other shooters. for those who know about the books and movies well basically you cannot stand your ground you always have to retreat and you get swarmed a lot. and you can more or less never secure the area and even after you clear an area out if gets over run again when the game forces you to back track. cheats would still be nice to offset the design but know i just want to play to see some more fights its not fun anymore. its like halo 2's legendary compared to halo ce legendary. though i can say at times the warriors look sweet though they more often look like a bad attempt at well i want to say texturing. im sure someone from the community could do better.
thanks.
