On the about page it described RFs prototyping abilities and then goes on to say you can give your game away or sell it and then it says:

"While you can certainly make a good game with Reality Factory, and even give it away and/or sell it to others, you won't see the kind of blazing optimized speed that you would in other single-purpose engines (like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament)."

What do they mean? That RF couldn't create a fast paced shooter like Quake 3 or it wouldn't be as easy to sell? The RF Single player level seems like it would be pretty fast paced if the player run speed was increased...

I'm confused!

I don't think this 'blazing optimized speed' refers to the pace of the game. It means that RF isn't that fast as a game engine. The other engines are optimized for a single type of game and that's why they are fast, being able to render great graphics and have lots of stuff running. RF, on the other hand, is slower and not so effective but can produce a variety of different gametypes.

Hmm. So your saying its still able to create a fast paced game but with lower graphics. I am looking into RF for 2 independent games that are rather fast paced but aren't bulky on grapihcs on effects. Do you think RF can handle that? Think of the FPS level that comes with RF just the character moves faster...

Welcome to the forum :D

Yeah im sure RF could handle that, it can do everything you see in the demo level and can actually handle better graphics than seen there. :)

You can pretty much make the game as "fast pased" as you want, that is NOT limited in RF :D Also (although it can do many other things) RF is very well suited to FPS games, so that would be a good place to start.

Its always good to see new people start using this great free app. Good luck with your project.

i see similar speeds using quake 2 or half life levels i converted over.....

but with rf now going stl instead of mfc crap, we'll soon see it ported to another game engine..........( like irrwizard; i know andy gave up cause of some of irrlicht's crazy conventions---but irrwizard creates a complete fps, it just needs a decent level maker for it))
