there was a tut from the old forum but i dont think it has been added yet. pm quest and ask if would be able to find and add them.
what i have saved concerning muzzle flash is to either make a model for the flash, use flipbooks, or a sprite. I remember looking at something like this not that long ago. i thought it was posted on the home page but the tuts that were there are gone. ive been gone to long.

I usually just model the weapon, put it into RF and into its place. Just where I want it to be on the screen. Then I take a screenshot of the game and paste it into PhotoShop and then just paint a flash that I think would be cool with the weapon. Then I save the bitmap and use it as a sprite, and finally tweak the offsets so that it looks good.

I know there was a tut by (i think) pickles a long time ago. Yes, do what juutis does. Thats pretty much what i remember reading, to use photoshop to draw them in. Though you want something more detailed than that of course. Ill try and see if i saved the one i remember on my hd.

i did a tut when i first joined the community about 3-4 years ago about how to do Half-Life 2 style 3d muzzle-flashes. i had a free one in there, and Gekido used it in the last version of RF that he worked on. If u search the forums you MIGHT find it, but i doubt it. i dont even think i have it anymore.
really, its simple. you just make a series of bitmaps with alpha channels. there are instructions on how to use these in RF manual i believe. just look at pics of real muzzleflashes and use those to figure out what u should draw.

a little offtopic,but can rf use 3d explosions,or does it have to be a 2d pic?

You could do this, just make a pawn and then when it explodes you shoot projectiles in every thinkable direction. This way you can also hit other thinghs and do damage there.
You can also add a 2d explosion to cover that you are fading out the corpse of the pawn.

dats perfect for nades cuz the explosions were a little too unrealistic

couldnt you have the death animation of the shell include an explosion?or is there no death animation for shells.
