Doom 3 = Not too super...

Well I rented it for Xbox and I can't say I've ever been unhappy with an ID game untill now. The PDA thing is neat untill a few levels later you get tired of reading text, and listening to stupid audio reports which may or may not have anything of use in them.
Also it doesn't take long before you get the scoop that everytime you pick up something an evil monster appears. Oh look armor *pickup* oh no the lights go out and monsters appear! The first time it's scary after that it's expected.
The slow moving zombies are more of a shock than anything for the first few times. Then you learn the routine and don't need the flashlight anymore. Oh look a dimly lit room what a dark spot over there in the corer...
Bang! *crosshair flashes red* bang bang bang...spooky.
I like the Turkey punching game though. Although if someone paid $50 for this game I'd say they are the turkey getting punched. Graphics are groovy even on the Xbox. One of the few games that passes the stop and look around test. Thats where you stop and carefully examine things to see how well done they are that most people don't notice because they are actually playin the game.
The whole flashlight - weapon switching isn't as bad as all the other reviews I read made it out to be. It's fast and easy. Flashlight "Oh look a zombie!" *click* bang bang he dies. The only thing that does get your pulse up is the fact that enemies can magically appear out of nowhere anywhere. So that room you just cleared is never clear so it does have that wath your back paranoia going on.
A note on weapons while pretty decent the shotgun is the slowest pumping shotgun I have ever seen in my life. There is like a 2 second delay between firing and being able to fire again.
On a bad note none of the weapons seem to have a secondary fire mode. Aside from the flashlight which not only shines but you can whack monsters with it too. Which is about all it takes to down the zombies. Just whack them twice and then fall over.
Also the worst thing is the lack of an autosave feature. Normally on a console it autosaves at the beginning of each level. Not for this port it doesn't. When I finally did die I then learned that I had to restart all over because it hadnt saved the game AT ALL!
Also enemies don't miss in this game. When they shoot they hit you except for the demons guys who pop out f nowhere. Their fireballs move slow enough you can dodge them with ease. Also enemies don't shoot when getting shot either. This makes taking out possesed marines with assault rifles really easy with the pistol. Since you find tons of ammo for it and it shoots just fast enough to not allow them to shoot back.
What else can I say... A decent rental I guess at it does cure the boredom and filled that desire to at least play the game. Not a bad game but I think it was designed more to sell a game engine than the game itself.
