concept models and blender...

Post by wackedoutbiker »

is it good to use concept art to plan a level first? I've been modeling some of my stuff in clay...

And also, I'm going to use Blender's sculpt thing hopefully to create terrain for the game...I wonder if Blender also has a paint on surface type tool?

it depends on your style. nothing ever comes out exactly as you concept it, but it is generally good to design (especially on paper) ahead of time any specific objects or areas you have in mind. it is also good practice to map out the floorplan of the level on paper.

but its not a rule. there are experienced and successful pros who never use concept art. but if it makes it easier for you, then by all means do it. I can't even touch a level before i at least draw a basic plan.

I'm not too familiar with blender anymore. but if i find out anything i'll let u know.

Well I'm definitely using Blender for some things. Would you guys like to view some concept art in a few weeks?

PNP terrain creator and Freeworld3d have paint-on
terrain, you have to buy Freeworld to save your stuff though.

Don't know if you can export anything RF can use, I'm using
L3DT in Neoaxis, a tut here:

yes blender does have a paint to texture feature, very powerful, it supports layers too, like having photoshop, with a 3d program in one, it's cool you paint your texture then paint the poly's in place with the sculpt tool, for high res models. NICE!

Yeah, but I still find Blender confusing and hard to work with. Sometimes when I send 3ds models or whatever back to MilkShape there's a crash or error. It blows.

Any ideas on how to fix that?
