I feel sorry for the people there. The entire city will probably be leveled. And keep in mind its a category 5 storm with 175 mph winds, and all the refuges are crammed into a building built to withstand 200 mph winds. if the wind gusts..... and not to mention the flooding. one report predicted 40,000 - 60,000 deaths.
i remember last year with Charlie, Francis, and Ivan here in florida. we were just out of its reach, but a lot of people lost their homes and their lives. so sad.
I hope you guys are OK

Well here in Oxford, MS last night we caught Katrina's rath as a class 1. Lots of power out, and I had to move a tree out of the driveway this morning as well.
Luckily I have a laptop so I can still surf the net. Because it's going to be like 2 days before they can get the power back on out here in the county.
Hopefully my battery will hold up but probably just for a couple of hours before I'll need to go find a place to recharge it.
*knock knock* "Hello?" "Yes hi my powers out and I need to recharge my laptop. Would you mind if I borrowed a outlet for awhile?" lol
Sadly though there are some friends and family missing so far. My brother in laws father was in Phillidelphia MS and cn't be reached, and my sisters old school friend stayed in Mobile AL, and can't be reached either. I'm assuming phone lines are down, but you never know.

Well it's been 24 hours and still no power. I did however find a place to recharge my laptop lol. You know I have to take care of those necessities.
Managed to get in contact with everyone who was down south and all are ok. Except my sisters friend who is stranded in Mobile AL. Luckily she went with her kid to a friends house because her apartment isn't there anymore. We're going to get a bunch of stuff to send to her to help replace some of what she lost which was pretty much everything.
Only bad thing is I have no power here and 30 yards away the neighbors do. Man if they fixed them couldn't they have stopped over here? lol. Darn power company.
Anyway net is slow as heck tonight. Think I'm going to watch Dawn of the Dead by candlelight before crashing out.

gulfport , biloxi and surrounding area's are almost completely destroyed......we are having a huge influx of mobile county, alabama and mississippi residents looking for ice, water and gasoline........mobile's downtown area( which they were just almost finished completeing renovating---kinda looked like downtown new orleans......
)is flooded, grand hotel at point clear , alabama( on the eastern shore of mobile bay) is closed........you would not beleive the reach of this storm.....
77,000 people in escambia county( the pensacola area) florida are without power......half of my little community is without power....i got power....my grandad 500 feet down the road doesn't..........
we are sending supplies, basics like food, clothing to biloxi and gulfport now..........this was bad....you guys are gonna feel it as well.....at the pumps....most of the gas in the u.s. was refined at new orleans and mobile...........

Well thank goodness the power is on and the stupidity of the American people has prevailed!
What I mean by that is there is now a gas shortage here. Why? Because the terrorizing threat of gas jumping up $0.20 has made everyone in town fill up every gas container they have. There are mile long lines from the gas stations with people waiting to get gas.
This is not caused by the Hurricane this is caused by the stupidy of the people. Had it not been for their misguided efforts at saving a buck gas would not be in such short supply.
I expect violence, and marshall law soon to come. Due to the number of people who will not be able to get any gas to go to work with. Not to mention the power outages and major influx of people. People will soon be shooting each other over a tank of gas.
Welcome to the Road Warrior days.
No it probably won't get that bad but everytime something like this happens and people react in the worst way possible only making the situation worse. It just erks me to no end.
yup....

I think its stupid that president bush, his father and clinton have to fundraise for money to send to the diaster area. If we didnt send money to every natural diaster affected country/region we would have enough to save the lives of those dieing on the interstates in new orleans.
In regards to the gas problem. Where are people going to drive to? Also storing gas in your house is a bad idea. But i hear that the national gas reserve is being used so prices should be .20 cents less or so.

Well it cost me over $12 to fill up the gas tank on my MOTORCYLE today. Which only has a 4.8 gallon tank.
They were putting out signs that said "Gas purchases are now limited to $25 per stop." So you can only now buy $25 in gas before having to drive to the next gas station. Brilliant! lol

i feel for ya man. I heard in some places gas is costing around $4 a gallon. and at a $25 limit you cant even fill up a 10 gallon tank like my car has.
It's sad they have to limit it though. I think Spielberg hit the nail right on the head in War of the Worlds. That IS how people act in an emergency. They lost all common sense. If there was no limit, people would by all the gas they could put in cans and fill their garage with it. Then what would the other people do?
