if I publish a game, am I allowed to use default characters that come with Reality factory as characters in my game?

maybe, you have to ask quest for licensing.
I wouldn't suggest it though, the defualt models are used too much

Most of the default stuff is free to use as long as you don't claim you made it, but not all. However, you really should make your own models if you want to publish a game ...

yeah...

well, the default stuff is only there as an example to get you going. if you slap together a game with the default content, then it isn't really YOU that made the game now is it? i personally dont care if my work is used by other people, but there are some instances where i would be ashamed to have my name mentioned. the KKK game that was made with RF way back in the day used a lot of the default content, including the default HUD... i certainly don't think the people who made the default content would be proud of that.

I believe Gekido (one of the admins) told us that he tried to shut down the Ku Klux Klan site where the game was hosted, but it turned out the server was pro-Klan, and it's not going away...

I just hope they didn't succeed in gaining enough converts...
