Gmax Plugins

Post by Microman171 »

Does any one here use Gmax to make there RF levels? Cause I think that would be really useful to me if I knew how to do that because it is powerful. Does anyone know how to do this?

Well th truth is it's better just to use RFEditPro or Quark. Because no matter what you use you are going to have to also use RFEditPro to set all the entities and properties up.

Otherwise you are going to have to try to find a map exporter for Gmax and then you will have to figure out to build the levels correctly for export, and then export into RFEditPro to set everything up.

Compared to a 3d modeller RFEditPro is very simple and functional and it's better I think to just use what works best.

Or use Quark if you want vertex editing but you will still hve to load it into RFEditPro to complete the level.

i use it on occasion, and lately i found a maxscript that automatically snaps everything in your scene to grid, so its become more useful. see here for the exporter:

i do however agree that its best just to use rfeditpro or quark or similar.

rfeditpro can open .map files, which is what that exporter writes to.

(note: in my experience, you may have to open the .map file it writes in quark and simply hit save to make it import to rf successfully)

I've got the Tempest gamepack for Gmax and it does .map's but I can't open them with RFEditPro. Any ideas? :? :?

did you try the maple3d exporter i linked you to? that seems to work fine, though i havent tested it lately... if it dosent, assign a texture to all brushes in gmax before importing. rfeditpro crashes if any brush does not have a texture.

No I havn't tested the link you gave me but I will. And are there any plugins for Gmax needed to make the maple3d exporter?

none beyond the exporter itself. they include level building tools, but they never worked terribly well for me, i always end up just building the level in gmax myself and manually running the map exporter script they include.
