Howdy Andy,
You can use gouraud shading by selecting your brush, opening the face attributes dialog, and selecting 'gouraud shading'. I've never been happy with the results, but your more than welcome to give it a try.
Good luck!
P.S. - this is for objects made in RFEditPro

Hmmm, after reading
this article, it seems like Gourad wouldn't be so good for RF, since it requires hi-poly models to make it look good.

The Genesis engine uses Gouraud shading for all non-textured polys.

thanks for the reply, its been a while since i used rf,
but i thought i would give that 'smooth' a shot

actually though guaroud can look pretty good!
it just depends on the amount of normals smoothing,
but it also droops the texture a little.
that wiki example just looked pretty terrible

I don't think the 'goruad' option in the face attributes will help you much with normal mapping, since there is no normal mapping for world geometry.
