OpenSource Game

I would like to introduce the concept of an OpenSource Game, I am not only referring to the game engine or the tools required to assemble it, but also to the story itself, its characters, levels etc.

I am in the beginnings of doing such a project, although the project started and continues to be created with UnReal 2004, in my attempts to reassemble a mod team or new team I will continue this angle too, but I think that this community has a lot to offer.

Although I have not posted here before today, I have read many of the posts, and some are quite genius to say the least. I do not expect any rapid responses to this post, yet neither will I detour from attempting to accomplish these goals.

Hey its my reality to choose what I want to believe, right?

Thank you for the welcome.

As an OpenSource game, it is difficult to say what it will eventually be about, our site has some general information regarding theme, and attempting to compile order form chaos, so the site is accessible but is undergoing constant revisions, I am not a web page designer but a level designer and writer, so if it looks rough , I hope you understand.

In a nut shell the theme follows that of a planer traveler much like Micheal Moorcock's Elric Saga, which allows for some unique design modularity, such as each plane containing a different story or adventure, I know it is not a simple task but it is neither impossible.

Again it is just in the birthing stage right now.

Here is one of our screen shots, but remember this is in UnReal, I have yet to attempt this in RF, but I will soon.

The place is called Mortus Corpus, desolate and erie. Mortus Corpus is just one of the many far flung cities scattered within Limbo. The orb in the background is the Limbo Nexus, from there one can travel to other planes, yet one often first finds themselves going to the plane of Limbo. Necropolis (still under development) is the capital on Limbo. All of the cities on Limbo are influenced by Law, this does not mean that they are havens of safety, yet they are still safer than the madness of Limbo.

In this screen shot Thangar, body and soul are being protected by the clerics' spells as he is forced to journey to The OtherSide. The protection from the clerics however is very limited.

Again this shot is from my Unreal Version, I have to learn RF, discover its limits and how to work around them.

Her is another screen shot a rough concept of the inside of Castle Curstaff. Lord Curstaff is poisoning Thangar so that he is forced to rescue his daughter from death, he explains to Thangar that he must die in order to travel to the OtherSide, but if Thangar manages to rescue his daughter, he will resurrect him and pay him his gold.

Castle Curstaff, Lord Curstaff is quite wealthy and he always gets what he wants. But time on the planes differs from the material plane and Lord Curstaff eventually has his clerics prepare his own body and soul for a journey to the OtherSide to find his daughter.

Are these screens from Unreal Engine v1 or v2?

Hey, those are pretty sweet screenshots! I love the castle in the last shot. :D

So let me get this straight, you are attempting to recreate these places with RF? Or did I get something wrong?

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck, whatever you are planning to do. :)

UT2004 UnReal Tournament, and RF looks like a viable medium. Some of the scenes I would like to reproduce, but what I would really like to to do is produce an opensource game, produced with opensource programs, with the creation of the game including story in an opensource manner, that is no one owns the story we all do, yes there has to be an arbitrator, it is an experiment, one that I would like to try.

For instance, here is Charon the one who guides souls to their final destinations, his words to wondering souls are "come" and "go", but there can be more to this character, maybe he is a sage like individual or maybe he takes souls for himself from time to time? I don't know but with the collaboration of others he could be fleshed out, creating mini stories in an ongoing saga that contains threads of continuity yet can be stand alone if need be. Am I making any sense?
