Which fighter you like better:

1.The one with less armour and arms uncovered, with reignforces boots-its more like short greaves-from King of Dragons
or
2.The other with more armour from D&D Tower of Doom
Which wears more armour like showlder pieces, elbow covered and greaves with knee caps?

Of course the one with the boots could have knee caps armour too.

Both styles can have the arms and legs covered with tight scalemail - or chainmail when changing to some other Material.

What i ve chose so far resembles more of the one with the horned helmet, with the arms and legs exposing the muscle.

Imagine these features to a mesh with more natural proposions.

The less armor the better! Especially if you can choose your gender. I've always been a fan of light armor.

I read that and could have SWORN you said, ". . .if you can lose your gender." :) I thought that would be big time reason to want VERY heavy armor!!!

If the character is known to be quick, use the light armor, so the character would have more movement, and they can dodge. If the character is known to be strong (with a war hammer or something of such nature), use heavy armor, big strong guys are usually slow, cannot dodge, thus need more protection.
Other than practicality, I think that the light armor would be used for gladiators or really confident fighters. The heavy armor for knights and stuff of the like. It depends on the character's personality more than anything.
Gender choosing would allow the player to bond with their character more.
Maybe 4 choices, like so?
-male light armor
-male heavy armor
-female light armor
-female heavy armor
Quite a job, but if done well it can produce phenomenal results!
