Archlord?

Has anyone played the
Archlord MMORPG? It recently became free to play including it's 3 expansions and I was wondering if anyone has tried it? I don't want to waste my time if it's boring or not as good as the screen shots make it look. They do mention that it's now a micro transaction game probably meaning if you want the good items then you will have to pay real money but it's free to roam the world and play without buying the good stuff.

Played it a year ago. The idea is excellent, I think. Conquering the castles and becoming an archlord sounds great but it's really nothing special. It's just the basic kill monsters and get levels and money to get better weapons to kill more monsters to buy more stuff. At least for the leveling part. I never got anywhere near the high levels where the fun starts, so to say.
I'm not sure if you can buy some overpowered items with real money but there used be all kinds of things that would make your leveling easier. Such as gaining more experience.
I'm not really a fan of MMORPGs so my opinion is probably more or less biased. If your level and items define how good you are in a game it can't be good. And that's what most MMORPGs are like. I do realize that their whole existence is based on the 'multiplayer' part but that's just not enough for me. I need some other content too than just the other players.
Ok, enough of my MMORPG-hate. I'd say it's definitely above average when it comes to free MMORPGs. Great idea, the usual execution. My advice is to try it out and find out if you like it or not.

It looks kind of cool I might have to give it a go.

I don't want to hijack this thread. But i'm just curious what would you add to a MMORPG that would change it from how you say?

Well first of all I'd like to add the skill element. In all MMORPGs I've played a player's personal skill doesn't matter much. It's all about how much time you soak into it to get items and levels. Of course, you gotta have the basic knowledge: which skill builds work, what skills do the opposing player have or how a PvE boss behaves etc. But apart from that your gear pretty much decides who lives and who dies.
I have a game called Severance: Blade of Darkness. It's a 3rd person hack&slash game with very minor RPG elements and it has the best combat system I've ever seen on PC. Haven't played on consoles much and I'm sure there are similar systems in those games. But anyway, there are the basic attacks and blocks which you can use to clear most enemies. It's not very effective though. Additionally there's a ton of special attacks and combos which are tricky to pull off but once you get it the enemy is almost 100% dead. They are executed with certain button combinations and they require precise timing. I'd like to see this kind of system in a RPG, or even a MMORPG. Maybe you could have these special attacks and counterattacks or special blocks and dodges or something. Everything needs to have a counter. I believe it would be really really difficult to balance though as the sheer numbers don't matter anymore, there's one more variable: the difficulty of the skill.
But... yeah. Let's not hijack this thread.

Hijack all you like
, I decided not to start another fantasy based MMORPG. I'm getting tired of all the same old hack and slash that goes with fantasy games. I think the next MMORPG I will try is going to be a SciFi one like
Stargate Worlds or
Star Trek Online. Know of any good free SciFi based MMORPGs?

I really love the idea of starwars galaxies but like usual they didn't take it to that level of believablity. I wish they would go through and make one were you are pretty much immersed in it. Like say they do in secondlife, but on a starwars level with better battles with jedi vs the sith.
