Gouraud flagged bsp and smoothing

All the years i use rf i always wanted to smooth a Bsp sphere by flagging its faces to "Gouraud" but with no success.
Is this kind of lighting made to look always faced by the Genesis 3d code?
I know it is an old type of shading and it s been used by various engines and standalone model viewers-years ago to display smooth shaded meshes.
Is Bsp so different that it cant be smoothed and keep the lightmaps,-or does it need a special light-like a sun or something?I have tried suns but the sphere is still faced.
Jay-maybe you know specific for Genesis if Gouraud can be smooth since you have digged out any hints that may be in the genesis code comments and stuff.

Lighting in Genesis is done via lightmaps. There is no vertex lighting. That is why the gouraud shading is not so great in Genesis. G3D 2.0 should fix this as there would be hardware lighting.
