Hello! Im new here. Looking for a level building tutorial

Hello all!
Im new to the RFeditor, Ive recently migrated over from FPSC since I cant get a thing done with it. I was wondering if there is a simple tutorial that shows how to use the Rfeditor step by step. i.e From making a room connecting it with hallways, changing the room from a square to maybe a cylinder (like a sewer), adding animated doors, stairwells and such? Ive been going over the manual for over a week now. Im working on learning Truespace since that program can be used to make models for RealityFactory.
As you read this Im going through the manual again and again. Creating a full game is hard work I know, its been 12 years since I first tried to make one

Im pretty determined to make one game other than a 2D game, as I already did that but it wasnt the game I really wanted to make. A Doom-clone is more of what Id like to take on.
Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the forum.
Download Dan Valeo's free e-book. That should get you started.
You can get it here:

I think to get started you should consider milkshape for the modeller as that is well supported (This is only a personal opinion). You might find a little difficulty getting models into RF from truespace, depending on the version you are using. Trugene will get models from the older versions of truespace into .act format but i'm not so sure about the latest versions. Equity does not support cob files yet and it may be some time before it does, as we have other priorities.

Hello bernie and thankyou, Im glad to be here!
Im currently using Truespace 3.2 the free version. Ive gotten Truegene from this site I think. This is still all new to me, what is Equity? Is it another program that goes with the RF engine?
Anyway thanks a million, I will return with results!

Equity is aprogram we are developing to modify, build and produce actors for RF from models. download it and read the help file it explains it all in there. It does not however support cob files as yet and it may be some time before it does. We are currently working on motion edit and build.

Downloading now. Will there be any support now or in the future in Equity for DirectX models with texture and animation data included?
EDIT: I frequently use Deled and Blender, both export to directX with correct plugins and settings. I have used MS3D but always had trouble with the directX export feature.
Anyway Im testing it now, will return with results..... hopefully this time

Not for the foreseeable future. We are tied up for a good while now with motion create/edit skeleton creation and tying in to mesh. going to take a long while yet.

I use Blender and so far Ive managed to get a mech without animation data to load into Equity.
Build and UVmap your model in Blender and export as .COB (Truepsace) format.
Load the .COB file into Lithunwrap and get all the textures fitted correctly, they may be a little off.
Export FROM Lithunwrap under .OBJ format as Equity has confirmed Lithunwrap's version of OBJ is functional.
Now it can be loaded into Equity with Uv map and all.
More importantly Im now testing to see if animation data will carry over as well. Thatll be my next post.
**Waitaminute! Wasnt this post for getting level building instructions?? Oh well. If any of this information helps Bernie, let me know. If its been done before its probably best I not continue posting. Im still trying to learn the level editor. Anyway thanks.

You would do better exporting from lithunwrap into ms3d format and then Importing that into Equity as ms3d format supports a skeleton, obj format doesn't. We are now working on creating motions in Equity. Its going well, at the moment we have an Editor under construction for the next version v5.0.5 (what we have done so far is working well) and you will require a skeleton tied to your mesh in order to build the motions but after that for v 5.0.6 we will be adding skeleton creation and tying in to mesh.

Not to sound like a complete idiot, but does that mean in the future when using Equity, all Ill need is a mesh and the skeleton can be built WITHIN Equity? That would be utterly fantastic.
By the way I did succeed in getting the bones into the mesh and into the Equit program. Animating with Blender is a pain as I usually use it for modeling only. Looking up Blender modeling and animation now.
And best wishes on Equity, its a fine program easy to understand and more practical than many of the other programs used in addition to other game creation packages. Keep up the good work!

Yes that is correct. With the next version you will be able to make new motions in equity for model that has a skeleton and is rigged. After that we will be creating the skeleton in Equity and rigging it. All you will need to do then is to import a mesh and do the rest in Equity.
