Cutscene in rftechv1.3DT crashes RF demo **SOLVED**

G'day Guys,

Am looking at the demo "rftechv1.3DT" (seems good for learning) but RF crashes when it gets to the cut-scene section.

I've googled and searched the forum but nothing seems to point to the issue.

The avi is the one that comes with RF "rfsplash.avi"

The log file named "RealityFactory.log" ends with these lines:

any assistance anyone can offer? I don't care about the cut scene right now and will see if i can avoid it so that i can continue the level. Having only just found that RF can do this i will want to do it in a later point. I did read some info but presume that the texture / brush is the right size for the avi and presume that the avi is in all the right formats and not 8 bit.

Do other levels also crash?

Nope,

The only crashes I've had from my PC and the install and levels I've made were due to my own errors.

There is something about that cut scene. I've not tried to create a cut scene yet as I have no need as at yet.

I did remove a few items from the level in the cutscene room, (I believe I deleted the cutscene) and there were NO issues with the rest of the levels.

Side note: That is an AWESOME level for referencing smaller things that can be done. I will refer to it on many occasions, I am sure.

Then there must be some error in the level. I haven't worked with RF for a long time and i haven't looked at this particular level... maybe once i have time - university is keeping me busy most of the time. Might be fun to figure out what is wrong with the level.

It would be great if you did, but no rush. It is NOT something i need right now. It's just one of those things that makes me wonder, (like where does the light go when it goes out).

The answer is not important and I have worked around it.

Are you using the latest version (RF 0.76.1)? Please, always post the complete log file.

Sorry. Under the RF log I have also pasted the windows XP generated error file. If the name of that file is relevent it was called: "d3af_appcompat.txt"
There were 3 more files in RF directory I have not included but have made backups if you wanted them:

Is there a special reason why you are using this old version of RF? I recommend updating to 0.76.1. That one includes a fix related to audio playback which might have to do with your problem.

Sorry I did mean to mention that I have since the last post DL the newer version and some patch for it. I've not yet installed it.

The reason for the old version is that wherever I DL it from is all it had, and or it stated it was stable (can't really recal, just intended to dick around with it, didn't intend to follow it or work on it as much as I am.)

After I have installed and patched the newer version I intended to test that out and then post back (it may be a few days yet).

Alright, Finally I have installed the lastet verstion and updates / patchs.

I have reloaded the level to find the 2 strangest things:
1) The Player can't jump
2) The player cannot get out of the ladder in the first 2 sections of water.( I just moved the start position to get around this.

Anyways the initial issue is still at play. The cut scene crashes. Any info / logs you want now that I have the new version? Does anyone else experience this issue?

It's possible that the codec that is required to play back the video is not installed on your machine and that's the reason of the crash. If I remember correctly the video in question was encoded using the cvid (CinePak) codec.

ad 1) The player definitly can jump. It's possible that the default key for jumping is set differently in this version. Just look it up in the game menu.
ad 2) You're right, the combination of water and ladder is a bit dodgy at the moment. I will look into it when I find the time.

Jumping: Yep key assign. (first time I pressed space to jump into the water. It was good timing because without pressing it the man jumps into the water :D

Ladder: Managed it. (now that I can jump)

Video: the file rfsplash.avi plays fine in WMP. This is the file used for the cut scene.

New one: I can't pickup the health just after the water. I can stand on it though :D

Hmm, strange thing. :? Can you set the detailed logging option in RealityFactory.ini to true and then check if the RealityFactory.log file gives any additional information after a crash?

Regarding the health attribute, it's working as it's supposed to. The reason you can't pick it up is that you start with your health attribute at the maximum level (100%).

Health: I would have expected to still get past it (as in it not be a barrier) ..eg. pick it up but have no effect or walk through it. (but that is not relevent)

Unfortunately, it just tells me that the video has been opened for reading fine but not why or where exactly it is crashing.
If you don't mind you could try the attached exe file. It probably won't fix the crash but should output more information to the log file.
