Destiny 3d public release

Post by gekido »

Haven't seen this posted here yet, so if you aren't aware of it, the folks over at Destiny 3d have done a public release of their source tree:

http://www.indiegaming.com/site/archives/22

Check out http://www.destiny3d.com for more news & the source code download. No binaries are included, source code only, but it includes their complete DirectX8 & 9 renderers, and a wide range of tools & other libraries that were written for the project.

And there is the problem. Only programmers can use it.

Surely it can't be that hard to release some binaries for Windows.

The whole reason this release was made is because the developers simply did not have enough time to work on the project - so they felt it was better to release what they had and hopefully have someone pick up the project & continue developing things, than just have it die and disappear.

That's odd, I have 2 different freeware things from them on my HD, I
got 1 of them to load a .3ds terrain, it looked O.K, now it says I
have the wrong direct X (too bad)
but if
I was going to do terrain I'd use the Paging Landscape Scene
Manager, from Ogre3d.org, it does huge terrains really fast.
