67MB
I used a free FTP program called Filezilla to upload this, it is supposed to resume broken uploads,
started and stopped about 20 times, so I wouldn't DL this
on dialup until someone with super fast internet DL's it to
see if it's corrupt, if so, I'll have to get my neighbor to upload it.
So if someone could report back if the file's good, then the rest of you all could go ahead.
Unzip (go to http://www.ultimatezip.com if you don't have an unzipper) to C: or D: make sure
'use folder names' is checked in your unzip program) or whatever your
HD letter is, it will make a directory called C:\asylum or D:\asylum. You'll also need
Microsoft's Direct X 9, get it at http://www.microsoft.com/directx, (12?MB) most modern computers
already have this. If you're on dialup like me you'll need a download program like getright, http://www.getright.com,
it will resume broken downloads, which occur when your internet provider hangs up the phone, or the power
goes off, etc. Ultimatezip, DirectX and getright are free.
Click on Asylum.exe to run the game. In game, hit 'I' for inventory then Return and arrow keys to the help screen for the controls.
The liftbelt only works in the island level.
The game takes about a minute to load on an Athlon 2600. You'll be on an island. Your goal is to escape from the island, there are 2 ways to do it. If you go near the trees, you might get stuck, just click 'new game', but usually you can just go Escape/Options/Debug/No Clipping (don't forget to turn clipping back on after you're free) to get unstuck, or 'space bar' to jump sometimes unsticks you. Save and Load game should work. Mostly the game is about running around shooting the bad guys. Both you and they are terrible shots with wimpy weapons. The island level is an evil hack with numerous rendering bugs, but it's the best Reality Factory can do terrain-wise. The level you escape to is made of standard geometry and better looking.
