My shot at a human body

Here... I know it isn't very good, but I'm constantly trying to improve it... Any tips? And also, how do I make the shoulders and the kneecaps? (it's made in Metasequoia and going to be 'boned' in Milkshape)

Here... I know it isn't very good
looks like a good attemtpt, i'm not sure looking at the model wether your trying to go for a disjointed look i.e rayman/vectorman approach, that approach make mesh deformation a sinch!(cos there isn't any :) ) i like it personally, .....just remember we all start somewhere never be disheartend by looking at others work remember compare your work to your own, and you will alway's be happy.

you also may be a little high in the poly's, what is the current polycount ?,

a good measure is around the 1500-2000 mark (hardware dependant)

check out psionic's web he has some brilliant tutes on lo-poly humaniod modelling, and some other invaluable tutorials as well to help you along.

http://www.psionic3d.co.uk <- definetly check this out they're really very good!

for modelling humans or anything for that matter, i find it best to use a reference photo, try to find a front and side view, top and back as well but those two are optional...

These are my words of wisdom which i picked up over the years, hope this helps

i agrre with Spyrewolf, It does look disjointed,
if you cant model well i would use milkshape with some tutes, to me its most user freindly.
Modelling humans for the first time is very tough if you stick at it youll get there.

Hey, don't down yourself. Ya gotta start somewhere! Always best to use a reference image. I can... er... attempt to find you some if you'd like. Modelling's no simple task, so be proud of what you have! :D Off to a good start. For joints, I'd suggest using a cylinder with 3 cross-sections, and manipulate it a bit to get the proper design. I guess. Oo; I dunno, I had the same trouble and it just came into mind, lol.

Disjointed-ness? No, I just don't know how to make joints...

Milkshape? Nah, I don't like modeling with it. It's too heavy for my crappy computer. I'd rather only make bones with it.

P.S. it's about 1400 polys, I've somehow made it look well with low poly count...

google for the "csgirl" tut. if i remember it's a larger dl - like 19Mb but it's really good for low poly modelling. covers everything from reference images to unwrapping and rigging. very good tut for low-poly human modelling.

Yeah, but I have a really small harddrive, and why should I download a tut that is bigger than RF itself? I know it's good, but are there any... smaller ones out there?

if 19mb is putting a dent in y6our HD space then you really should buy a bigger one.
All my game stuff runs into gigabytes.

http://www.josh.ch/joshch/tutorials/mil ... lcome.html

is only 4.15 mb includes parts on animating, modelling, references photos-front left back included-and i think skinning though i may be wrong on that last one. Also try

http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/re ... ials.shtml

these are for half life and include tuts for 3ds max and milkshape

Okay, when I find the CD I wrote Milkshape to I'm going to check the tuts... And anyway, that 4MB tut is still bigger than Milkshape's download :P

These are from that 4mb tut. It includes right, front, back, and i had to make the left.

Hey i made some models and will show them as soon as i can i'm in a network :? so they are not here but i will render some and post them. I use 3dmax and find it very easy to make low poly models, but i have no texturing experiance and am looking for a good program that's not to hard to pick up. If anyone knows some programs or tools please let me know. :)
