Hello,
I am completely new to game development and I stumbled onto Reality Factory a couple of weeks ago. I am starting to get a hang of some of the features but I still have no clue on what I am doing, however, I see lots of potential in this game engine even for someone like me with no programming knowledge!!!
My goal is to create some 3rd person action/adventure type games like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Onimusha, etc... I am not sure how to go about doing this. So far I am figuring out the level creator, but it always makes a 1st person preview. How can I get 3rd Person?? Direct help would be appreciated, but pointing me to a guide of some sort would also help a lot as I have not material on this engine.
Also, I am a pretty good at modelling in Cinema4D and Alias Maya. Would I be able to use characters, objects, and models created in these software in Reality Factory? Also, what would I have to do? Would I have to have them fully rigged for animation, apply physics to them, lighting effects, etc...? My only experience in these software is modelling mainly for animations and 3d art, but I can somewhat rig them for animation.
Also, is it possible to get a created game to work on a system like PS2? I know simply compiling an image and burning it will not work, but I have read something about homebrew games that can work with an HDLoader and a Memory card exploit or something like that...Would games made by RF count?? If not, it is not big deal, but I would like to know if you can set up a gamepad to work for this game. Like I said, I am completely new to game development so I do not know how to make any changes in settings for this software... The reason I ask about controller compatibilty is that I saw an adapter that you can connect a PS2 controller to a PC and that is my favorite game controller...
Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
Please help newbie with Reality Factory...3rd person games

to use the third person camera. simply hit F2 while ingame. you can make it always start in third person by one of the entries in the playersetup entity, you might look it up in the docs.
any modeling program that can directly or indirectly export to nfo/key or bdy/mot will work with rf (and if you have milkshape thats almost all of them). any that will not, will not.
the ps2 port is possible, if you aquire a license from sony to do so. i will not discuss illegal methods beyond saying that its nearly impossible either way, as as moderator i would rather keep the forums clean, and it is my personal view that any method other than the one sanctioned by sony is wrong.
I -think- gamepads work, i'm pretty sure i saw some gamepad code thumbing through the rf source a little while back.
have you seen the manual? it's at http://dhost.info/realityfactory/onlinehelp/index.htm
throughout this site there are a ton of resources. the rf faq, rf ebook and manual are particularly helpful.
welcome to the forums!

Wow, all of that was very helpful!!! Thanks for that link. That has tons of info.
Now, that I know how to use third person, can you help me to reduce the amount that the character can jump? Right now, he can jump about 3 times his height and that is very unbelievable. I cannot find the setting for this.
Thanks for all the help you have provided so far!!!
