OH MY GOSH... (Crysis)

Has anybody played Crysis!?
It's AMAZING
Seriously... I downloaded the demo last night... runs like crap on my computer, but it's seriously amazing... :o
Even on low settings, the graphics are amazing... the non-linear game style is a stroke of genius... Pretty good AI, the nanosuit is amazing... I can turn it on speed and run at like 40 mph, and there's also strength, cloak, and armor.
I don't know how to describe it... it's just... amazing.

Hehe... :D
It didn't lag THAT bad when I had all the graphics settings turned down. It mostly screwed me when it auto-saved my games.
The AI will try to flank you... ram you, etc etc.
One thing that did happen, though, that I thought was kinda cool --
I was in this shack and all these guys were trying to shoot me... I kinda laid low for a little bit and I heard one of them say "I think we got him!" :P

I too have the demo and hope to purchase the game soon.

The game runs smooth at medium settings on my computer with only a few hiccups.

My System:
Core 2 Duo @ 2.13 Ghz (E6420)
2GB DDR2 667Mhz ram
GeForce 8600GT 256MB(Overclocked from the factory)
SoundBlaster Audigy SE
Windows Vista Ultimate - 64bit

I wish I could play it on High or Ultra High settings which make the game look like a movie from the screen shots I have seen. My PC gets a horrendous frame rate above medium settings. Direct X10 features aren't very appearant at face value but are great little details once you notice them. I like to take guns and shoot trees and watch them break apart exactly where I shot them. Also having the foliage react to objects is pretty cool. As you move through the brush the branches bend around you!

I only have one gripe about the demo. The player dies way to easily. I have shot the enemies many times in a row in the head and they don't die or I unload a clip of ammo into them and they don't die. Meanwhile they get like 6 shots on your armor with "maximum armor" on and you die. So much for an awesome amazing nanosuit. Looks like bullet proof vests are the real life savers. I thought a cool nanosuit would be better than regular protective armor.

I heard that the demo is only supposed to be 45 minutes of gameplay but I have played through it twice each taking about 2 hours. I play around in the environment and have too much fun I suppose. After eliminating enemies in one area I took a metal box and gave myself maximum strength and destroyed all of the shacks and buildings in the area by throwing the box around :P . I also took the time to eliminate all enemies instead of dodging around them.

The coolest thing I have done in the demo was in the first enemy infested area by the bay where the com. tower is that you have to destroy. I took all the explosive gas tanks and barrels and placed them next to the com tower. I then drove the nearby hummer next to it as well. I stood back and shot the gas tank on the hummer which then exploded causing everything else to explode! It was a massive fireball!

Another cool moment was I used the tactical attachment to shoot a tranquilizing dart at an enemy on the doc in the bay. He passed out and fell into the water and drowned!

Sounds like i need to try and download the demo again (first time took to long so i stopped).

Sounds like they tried to make the demo last longer by making enemies extra tough.

I need to upgrade my computer... I think I need all new parts, although my biggest problem is my RAM (512 mb :P , been meaning to upgrade to 1-2 gb for a while), and my graphics card (256MB Radeon x1300, not so bad, but a little dated).

I just built my "uber" pc as I like to call it this past May. I wanted to make sure it wouldn't be outdated for a while so I went for the best bang for your buck hardware. All the tech above mine was not so much better but alot more expensive. But anyhow... back to Crysis.

I am a little disappointed that my machine can't handle the game on high or ultra high. Crytek says they designed those levels for future hardware to use so the game has a longer life. I don't find that very wise because once beaten I wouldn't play through it again, and graphical upgrade for multiplayer isn't too important in my book. It just seems like an excuse for releasing it now. Once I'm done with a game I don't care if new hardware makes it look better. I want the first experience to be the best, not when I play it when I'm board a year or so later.

The game is amazing and has set the bar for PC gaming, but I just don't like how it requires cutting edge hardware. I don't think PC games should require the latest technology when first released. Maybe its just because I don't want to drop $500 on a new graphics card for ONE game. Hardcore gamers willing to shell out some serious cash will be the ones with the best immersive experience first time through.

Well, the way I think about it is that eventually I would need hardware like this anyway for future games... you might say that Crysis is ahead of its time (or possible just the start of it).

Well that is one way to look at it but after the technology is on the market for a while it isn't so expensive. The hardware required for Crysis just isn't practical in my book. Although someday the hardware will be "needed" it wont cost as much that day.

My pc can play it pretty darn well so I will buy the game regardless but I am fighting temptations to SLi my system to almost double frame rate so I could play on the high quality setting. Of course I might need more RAM then because of larger texture sizes which a 256MB just might not cut it considering the hardware designed for Crysis is 3##MB, 512MB, 6##MB, 728MB and even 1GB of video ram. I feel like my new system has just been pushed into the stone age with game developers pushing for these marks . Now I know what I missed all the years of being a console gamer, all the hardware headache. I am gonna stick with my Nintendo consoles for primary play.

I never knew how much of a headache PC gaming was until now .
